SkyRidge Equestrian Training Philosophy

Owning a horse will change your life, and good horsemanship will enrich it even further. The endeavor to learn a discipline in riding and excel in it is a monumental, rewarding task. The Federation Equestrian International lists the following about the influence of studying horsemanship on the rider—a list of benefits that can apply to any riding discipline:

  • Comprehensive knowledge
  • Practical experience
  • Growth mindset
  • Respect for the horse
  • Ethological empathy
  • Effective application of learning theory
  • Awareness and attentiveness to body language
  • Commitment to the priority of equine welfare
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Humility and integrity
  • Adaptability
  • Patience
  • Selection and treatment of support team
  • Development of symbiotic relationships

Horsemanship is an art and a skill, a manner that a horseman uses to bring out one’s good character. The horse is a teachable and noble creature—dressage means “training” in French and derives from preparing a horse for the military to go to war.

My training goal is to create a balanced, rideable horse, a horse that can become a partner. SkyRidge Equestrian is a safe and secure environment where horses can thrive and be productive in an active, open atmosphere. Our cross-training methodology will include cavaletti, free jumping, trail riding, round pen exercise, Euro walker time and free time turnout.

I want to provide a solid education for horses and riders. I am a dedicated rider, a FEI rider, a horseman who has brought along our own young horses through the levels of the United States Dressage Federation. I have trained with the best in Southern California. I have also trained in Europe. I have carefully chosen my sources of information about riding. I understand problem-solving with the horse and I am a studied and well-educated rider. I can teach good skills in riding to create confidence while mounted or on the ground. I have completed the USDF Instructor and Trainers Educational series and completed the “L” program for judging. I am a perpetual student of the horse. It is satisfying to help the horse and rider to comprehend the challenges in the advancement of their training.

At SkyRidge Equestrian, we will have a steady schedule of excellent outside clinicians, successful competitive riders, judges, and equine professionals who will come to our facility to improve our horsemanship, our dressage, and our ability to show, trail ride, train, and manage the health of our horses. We plan to schedule shows and events at our facility in the very near future.

We welcome you to join our training program.
